- Usage Data & Behavioral Metrics: Our Comprehension Core Engine tracks interaction patterns, such as quiz scores, average answer speeds, time spent on passages, and usage of scaffolding tools (e.g., hovering on vocabulary/pronouns).
2. How We Use the Information
The data we collect is used exclusively for educational and operational purposes, including:
- Generating Diagnostic Behavioral Profiles to help educators understand a student's cognitive profile (e.g., categorizing into quadrants like "The Masters" or "Productive Strugglers").
- Providing real-time feedback and scaffolding during reading activities.
- Improving the accuracy and effectiveness of our AI models and overall platform performance.
- Generating aggregate, anonymized reports for school administrators.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data to third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- With Educators and School Admins: Student performance and behavioral data are shared directly with the authorized educators and school administrators tied to their classes.
- Service Providers: We may use trusted third-party services (e.g., hosting providers) who are bound by strict confidentiality and data protection agreements.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.
4. Student Privacy Compliance (FERPA & COPPA)
We are designed to comply with applicable student privacy laws, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We act as a "School Official" under FERPA, utilizing student data only to provide our educational services. We rely on the school's consent to collect data from children under 13.

We retain student data only as long as necessary for educational purposes or as instructed by the school. Educators and school administrators can request the deletion of their data or their students' data at any time by contacting our support team.
